Cristiano Ronaldo may have already played his final UEFA Champions League match, but a loss against Turkey on Thursday would mean he would miss out on his sixth FIFA World Cup appearance.

Portugal qualified for the play-offs after a draw with Ireland and a loss to Serbia in their qualifying group.

Turkey concluded qualification in second place in their group, behind the Netherlands, with three wins in a row.

This is the first competitive match between the two sides since Portugal's 2-0 victory at Euro 2008. Rui Patricio was on the bench that day, while Pepe, Joao Moutinho, and Ronaldo began for Portugal.

When comparing the two groups, Portugal has the advantage of experience, and they have a difference-maker in Ronaldo. They're favorites, but it's not going to be easy.

Sweden vs Czech Republic

Sweden finished second behind Spain in the group stage of qualification after suffering back-to-back defeats.

The Czech Republic qualified for the play-offs courtesy to their third-place result in the UEFA Nations League, behind Wales and Belgium in their group.

Czech Republic will be without a number of key players for Thursday's encounter, and it's difficult to imagine them winning this play-off.

Italy vs North Macedonia

Italy, less than a year after winning the Euros, found themselves in risk of missing the 2022 World Cup. Italy has only won two of seven matches since defeating England in the Euro 2020 final.

North Macedonia finished second in their World Cup qualification group, behind Germany. Their lone loss in their last seven games has come against Germany, so they should be confident going into Thursday's match.

Italy has struggled since winning the European Championship, but failing to qualify for the World Cup this year would be a nightmare. They're way too good to be crashing out here.

Wales vs Austria

Wales finished second behind the Red Devils in their World Cup qualifying group, having gone undefeated in their previous seven matches, including a 1-1 draw with Belgium in their final encounter. They haven't lost since Euro 2020, but have struggled to convert one point into three in their previous seven games, with four draws and three wins.

Austria finished fourth in their World Cup qualification group, behind Israel, Scotland, and Denmark, but advanced to the play-offs thanks to their UEFA Nations League performance. Austria finished 2021 with back-to-back triumphs over Israel and Moldova, scoring four goals in each match.

Wales is undefeated in three meetings with Austria, and with home advantage, they should be able to capitalize.
