Highlights

Both teams were coming off losses on Matchday 1, which made for a tense start to the encounter. However, with France coach Didier Deschamps making 10 changes after his team's loss to Denmark, it was no surprise that the hosts were the ones to create the first serious chance.

The French defense was separated by Mateo Kovai's through ball, but Ante Budimir's first touch moved him slightly wide, and his eventual shot was direct at goalkeeper Mike Maignan. As the half progressed, Les Bleus began to gain control of the game, as Moussa Diaby and Aurélien Tchouameni both forced Dominik Livakovi into saves in the final minute of the half.

Following the restart, Croatia came out firing, but it was Les Bleus who scored first, thanks to a well-worked team goal. Adrien Rabiot and Wissam Ben Yedder exchanged passes just inside Croatia's half-time break, with the Juventus midfielder racing Josip Juranovi down the flank and superbly picking his position with a cool left-footed finish.

Croatia captain Luka Modri attempted to equalize on his 150th appearance for the national team, but Maignan was equal to the Real Madrid midfielder's curling shot.

Nevertheless, just when it appeared that time was running out for Zlatko Dalić's charges, Jonathan Clauss – only just on as a substitute – sent fellow replacement Kramarić tumbling in the box, and the Hoffenheim forward kept his cool to slot home the resultant spot kick, sending Maignan the wrong way.
There were chances to win it in the closing stages for both teams, but neither Antoine Griezmann nor Luka Sučić were able to find the target.
