Highlights

Chelsea took command of their Carabao Cup semi-final encounter against Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg, winning 2-0 thanks to an early score from Kai Havertz and an own goal by Spurs defender Ben Davies.

The Blues dominated their opponents from the start, and following a defensive mix-up in the fifth minute, Havertz blasted a goal-bound angled shot that deflected off the foot of Davinson Sanchez.

Half an hour later, the hosts scored their second goal, albeit with a lot of luck, as Japhet Tanganga headed away a Hakim Ziyech free-kick, only for the ball to rebound off Davies' shoulder and into the Spurs net.

Spurs' dreams of capturing their first trophy since winning the competition in 2008 were dashed by the victory, which came under former Chelsea coach Antonio Conte. The second leg takes place next Wednesday, and Tottenham will be looking for a comeback thanks to home advantage.
