Chelsea 2-0 LOSC

When Havertz rose unmarked to meet Hakim Ziyech's corner to put Chelsea ahead after eight minutes, he had already missed two good chances. While Lille had impressed throughout the first leg, it was the home side who would extend their lead when Pulisic ran onto N'Golo Kante's pass to beat Leo Jardim (63).

Romelu Lukaku, who had just seven touches in the full 90 minutes of Chelsea's 1-0 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, was an unused substitute while Havertz shone in the false nine role.

The Champions League holders - and recently crowned club world champions - defended resolutely to keep another clean sheet, but the injury withdrawals of Mateo Kovacic and Ziyech in the second half put a tiny damper on an otherwise routine night.

Both players must now be questionable for Sunday's Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports. Despite coming second to Juventus in Group G, this was an excellent response, and Chelsea can now fly to France for the return leg on March 16 at Stade Pierre-Mauroy with one foot in the quarter-finals.

Villarreal 1-1 Juventus

In the first leg of their last-16 tie, Dusan Vlahovic scored in the opening minute of his Champions League debut for Juventus, but Dani Parejo earned a 1-1 draw for Villarreal.

Free-scoring Vlahovic made his European debut for Juve after joining from Fiorentina for £66.6 million in January and took just 33 seconds to put the visitors ahead in Spain.

There were few clear-cut chances, but Parejo scored in the 66th minute to keep the draw alive going into the second leg in Turin next month.
It was the sides' first meeting, and Vlahovic immediately demonstrated his worth by collecting a through pass from Danilo after Villarreal lost possession in midfield and guiding his shot inside the far post.

Giovani Lo Celso, a Tottenham loanee, could have equalized in the 14th minute after being set up by Alfonso Pedraza's spectacular run, but he could only find the angle of post and bar.

For the rest of the first half, Villarreal huffed and puffed without producing anything important, while Juve were prepared to sit back and probe on the break.

Atletico Madrid 1-1 Manchester United

United was attempting to follow in the footsteps of the three other English teams still in the Champions League by securing a first-leg lead in the first knockout stage, and Ralf Rangnick stated on the eve of the journey to Madrid that this competition was his top priority.

In Spain, though, his team fell behind within the first seven minutes of the game. After clearing the original corner, Atleti left-back Renan Lodi swung in a cross from the left, which Joao Felix met with a magnificent header that went in off the near post.

Despite having the majority of possession, the visitors did not appear to be at ease in the first half. Cristiano Ronaldo, who was called the entire game, was increasingly enraged by Atletico's tactics, and the hosts came close to adding a second goal shortly before halftime when Sime Vrsaljko struck the crossbar.

Benfica 2-2 Ajax

The Ivory Coast striker has 11 goals in his first seven Champions League appearances for Ajax, the most by a newcomer in Europe's top club league.

However, it was not enough to secure Ajax's sixth Champions League triumph in a row.

After a cross from the right by Noussair Mazraoui, captain Dusan Tadic put Ajax ahead in the 18th minute with a volley past Odisseas Vlachodimos in the Benfica goal.

Haller leveled the score in the 26th minute when he deflected a hard, low cross by former Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen into his own net, but he made apologies three minutes later when he tapped home a rebound to keep his scoring streak going.
