Benfica 1-3 Liverpool

Liverpool had won all four of their away games in the competition this season and were initially in control, with Odisseas Vlachodimos denying Mohamed Salah early on before Ibrahima Konaté headed in his first UEFA Champions League goal from Andy Robertson's corner in the 17th minute.

The difference in ruthlessness in the first half was summed up when Nicolás Otamendi headed Benfica's first chance wide, and the visitors quickly doubled their lead, Sadio Mané tapping in after Luis Daz deflected a Trent Alexander-Arnold raking pass.

At halftime, though, home coach Nélson Verssimo rallied his team, and they took the lead in the 49th minute when talisman Darwin Nez pounced after Konaté failed to cut out Rafa Silva's cross. Now it was Jürgen Klopp's side who were under siege, with the Liverpool manager making an emergency triple substitution shortly after Alisson Becker denied Everton an equalizer.

The modifications were successful. The Reds regained their calm, absorbed more home pressure, and then struck late on when Naby Keta passed Daz through the middle, and the former Porto midfielder coolly slid past Vlachodimos to add a vital third goal.

Manchester City 1-0 Atletico Madrid

The home side appeared to be in for a miserable night as they struggled to locate the final pass or shot despite dominating possession and barely being threatened.

But, in the Atletico Madrid area, substitute Phil Foden threaded a cross to Kevin De Bruyne, who passed Jan Oblak with a low shot to give Manchester City a significant advantage in the tie.

Pep Guardiola's side will travel to Spain next Wednesday with a one-nil advantage, knowing that a draw will earn them a place in the Semi-Final, but scoring in Madrid will be difficult based on tonight's performance.

Villarreal 1-0 Bayern Munich

Villarreal took a narrow lead into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich, winning 1-0 in the first leg at Estadio de la Ceramica.

Unai Emery's team got off to a flying start, taking the lead after just seven minutes, much to the joy of the home crowd.

Dani Parejo's scuffed attempt was pushed into the net by Arnaut Danjuma ahead of him, as the Dutchman scored his sixth Champions League goal for the Yellow Submarines.

Five minutes before halftime, the home team scored again, as Francis Coquelin's cross from the left miraculously made its way into the far corner of the goal. VAR, on the other hand, disallowed the goal due to offside in the build-up.

In the second half, the game became more open, with both teams creating numerous scoring opportunities. Gerard Moreno's 25-yard effort slammed the bottom of the post for Villarreal, much to the relief of Manuel Neuer in the Bayern Munich goal.

Despite late Bayern pressure, the hosts hung on to claim another legendary European victory on home soil.

Chelsea 1-3 Real Madrid

Benzema had already demonstrated his deft touch with a back-heel in the build-up to Vincius Jnior blasting against the woodwork when he opened the score. Vincius then teed up Madrid's No9 with a chipped cross, allowing him to head past Edouard Mendy unerringly without breaking stride.

Benzema's second goal was sweeter in appearance but no less admirable in execution, with the France striker demonstrating his deftness by heading Luka Modri's cross back across Mendy. Kai Havertz quickly got in on the act with a header of his own, courtesy of Jorginho's deft cross, but Benzema should have completed his treble before the break, but he poked wide.

After a lapse from Mendy, he slid into an open goal for his hat-trick just after the break. Despite the fact that César Azpilicueta and Romelu Lukaku both missed chances to cut Madrid's lead, just one man dominated the night.
