Team news

Arsenal news

  • For Saturday's 2-1 loss to Manchester City, Takehiro Tomiyasu returned from injury and COVID.
  • Mo Elneny, Nicolas Pepe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Thomas Partey have all been called up to the AFCON squad.
  • Gabriel has been suspended for the home side following his red card against City at the weekend.
  • After recovering from COVID, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles were back on the bench over the weekend. Pablo Mari was still nowhere to be found.
  • Bernd Leno is expected to start today, as he did in the previous Carabao Cup rounds.
  • For the home team, Nuno Tavares, Rob Holding, Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, and Sambi Lokonga will compete for starting.

Liverpool news

  • A COVID outbreak at Liverpool's training field has put this game at risk of being postponed. After testing positive over the weekend, Roberto Firmino, Joel Matip, and Alisson were already out.
  • Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, and Naby Keita all left for the African Cup of Nations at the start of the week, severely depleting Liverpool's squad. Thiago, Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi, and Nat Phillips are all still out with injuries.
  • Andy Robertson has returned from a three-match suspension, and Curtis Jones might make his first Liverpool start since October, but who is truly available remains to be seen.
  • Jurgen Klopp tested positive for COVID last week, and if the semi-final first leg goes forward, he may have to be creative.

Arsenal vs Liverpool prediction

Arsenal lost 2-1 to Manchester City on Saturday, but Pep Guardiola admitted that his team was far superior. Even though Arsenal conceded a penalty and Gabriel was sent off soon before the hour mark, the game did not slip away from them. Arsenal only allowed City two efforts on target, one of which was a penalty and the other was Rodri's injury-time winner.

On Sunday, Liverpool conceded a 2-0 lead to Chelsea, resulting in a 2-2 tie. Thiago and Fabinho struggle to control games when they don't start together, and the former will miss out again due to injury. At the Emirates, Jurgen Klopp's side has only won one of their last four games.

Due to injuries, COVID, and the Africa Cup of Nations, both teams are missing a large number of players. Liverpool has been hurt the worst of the two, but it will be interesting to see if Arsenal's inexperienced front line and suspect midfield can take advantage.

Prediction: Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool
