2022-2023 Premier League Week 3: Match Previews
Another amazing weekend with Premier League Week 3. Let's check our predictions for the upcoming matches!
Tottenham vs Wolves
In an effort to resume their winning ways, Tottenham managed to salvage a point in the last second against Chelsea last weekend. However, after Wolves' re-entry into the Premier League, Spurs has dropped three of their four home matches against Wolves.
On Saturday, Wolves needed a last-minute Jose Sa penalty save to hold onto a point against Fulham. They haven't won in nine league games since April due to their poor play.
Although Spurs have a dismal home record against Wolves, they ought to break that curse in Saturday's midday match.
Prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Wolves
Bournemouth vs Arsenal
Last weekend's game between Bournemouth and Manchester City was challenging, and the Cherries fell to the reigning champions 4-0. They take on a formidable Arsenal team, the only other team in the division with a perfect record.
The last two Premier League encounters between Scott Parker and Mikel Arteta occurred while Parker was a player for Fulham. While losing 3-0 at Craven Cottage, Parker's Fulham team earned a point against Arsenal at the Emirates in the 2020–21 season. After narrowly losing out on a Champions League spot the previous season, Arteta's team has significantly improved since those games and is now in contention.
The brilliance of Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Odegaard will probably be able to get through a Bournemouth defense that kept a clean sheet against Aston Villa on the first day of the season, despite Bournemouth's best efforts to stymie Arsenal's free-scoring attack.
Prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Arsenal
Leeds United vs Chelsea
This season, Jesse Marsch's team remains unblemished despite giving up three goals. They are tied with Sunday's opponents Chelsea in terms of points. Bamford's absence presents Rodrigo, who scored a brace against St. Mary's the previous weekend, with an opportunity to continue his streak of goals against the Blues.
Given the drama that erupted near the game's conclusion, Chelsea was unfortunate to draw with Tottenham. Following his late dismissal following his touchline altercation with Antonio Conte, Thomas Tuchel will be watching from the stands as he serves his touchline suspension. Kalidou Koluibaly scored the team's opening goal and has played well in their last two games.
This will be Leeds' first significant test of the season, while Chelsea will be looking for more of the same after their last trip to Elland Road. The Blues appear ready to return to the South with all three points.
Prediction: Leeds United 1-3 Chelsea
Newcastle vs Manchester City
The final Premier League game of the day will be a football match between Newcastle United and Manchester City. The Citizens are eager to maintain their perfect record after starting their title defense with back-to-back victories against West Ham (2-0) and Bournemouth (4-0). Erling Haaland, a high-profile acquisition, will be the player to watch on the away side despite the fact that he was unable to score in the crushing of the Cherries. With the exception of Kalvin Phillips and Aymeric Laporte, Pep Guardiola has access to his entire roster.
The Magpies, on the other hand, are aiming for their third straight clean sheet, although it is more difficult said than done to stop Man City attackers from scoring. The Citizens do well against the Magpies, thus an away victory should be taken into account. Jonjo Shelvey is still out injured, and for the home team, all of Targett, Lewis, and Fernandez are listed as questionable.
Prediction: Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City
