Barcelona 0-0 Rayo Vallecano

It was a discouraging night for Barca, whose supporters came out to watch their new team, led by Poland striker Lewandowski, the two-time FIFA Best Player of the Year winner, and Brazil winger Raphinha, in a nearly sold-out stadium.

With over 70% of the possession and 18 goal attempts to Rayo's two, Barcelona dominated the game.

However, the visitors had the two greatest opportunities, with Sergio Camello missing wide and Alvaro Garcia being stopped by a spectacular save from Marc Andre ter Stegen.

Lewandowski was effectively restrained by Rayo's five-man defense throughout the whole game, scarcely touching the ball once.

Raphinha and Dembele, the team's effective flank pairing, created the most of Barca's chances in the opening period.

Ansu Fati and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were brought on from the bench by Barca coach Xavi Hernandez in an effort to break the score, but Rayo fought valiantly to hold out for a draw.

Barca's captain Sergio Busquets lost his composure as their irritation level rose and was dismissed for elbowing Falcao Garcia in the face during stoppage time.

Following Rayo's victories against Barcelona in both of their meetings last season, goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski recorded a clean sheet for the third time in a row against the Spanish powerhouse.

Almeria 1-2 Real Madrid

Prior to the opening La Liga match of the season, Carlo Ancelotti decided to rotate. Militao, Alaba, Casemiro, Modric, and Carvajal were the five players that didn't play in the UEFA Super Cup triumph. Tchouameni and Rudiger made their collegiate debuts in their place, and Camavinga, Nacho, and Lucas Vazquez received playing time.

Ramazadin's goal for Almeria gave them the lead early in what ended up being a challenging match in the south of Spain. Ancelotti made some tactical adjustments and personnel alterations that resulted in a turnaround in the second half. David Alaba's inch-perfect free kick and two goals from Lucas Vazquez gave Madrid the victory.

Getafe 0-3  Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid opened the 2018 LaLiga season with an emphatic 3-0 victory at Getafe on Monday, with two goals from Alvaro Morata.

Morata returned to Juventus after spending time on loan in Italy with two goals each side of halftime, both of which were assisted by Joao Felix.

Atletico Madrid's third goal came from substitute Antoine Griezmann as Diego Simeone's team set the tone for the new campaign.

The main advantage for Atletico was the friendship between Morata and Felix. Simeone selected those as his front two, and after 15 minutes, the latter teed up the former in the box to start the scoring.

Although Getafe could still pose a threat, Atletico controlled the opening half. Just before the break, Borja Mayoral struck the woodwork to make a warning noise.

After the break, Getafe made a strong effort, but Felix took advantage of a slip-up as the hosts played out from the back to set up Morata for his second goal of the evening.

Then Griezmann joined in on the fun. After more than six months without a goal for the Rojiblanco, the French attacker, who came off the bench, finished the scoring with a beautiful finish.
