Spezia 1-3 Inter Milan

Inter Milan won their third league match in a row with a 3-1 victory against Spezia on Friday, putting Simone Inzaghi's team atop the Serie A table for the time being.

Because league leaders AC Milan didn't play until later on Friday, the champions knew that a win in Liguria would propel them to the top of the table. Their victory put them one point ahead of Inter, but AC Milan's 2-0 win over Genoa restored their two-point advantage at the top of the table.

After a tense start, Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic broke the deadlock in the 31st minute, sweeping the ball home after Danilo D'Ambrosio's knockdown.

As Inter searched for the critical second goal, chances came and went until Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez pushed one home in the 73rd minute to put his side in possession.

The championship chasers had a stressful last few minutes thanks to a magnificent late goal from Spezia captain Giulio Maggiore, but substitute Alexis Sanchez's stoppage-time goal put the game to rest.

Inter now has 69 points from 32 games, two behind AC Milan after Stefano Pioli's side defeated Genoa 2-0 at the San Siro. With 33 points, Spezia remains in 15th place.

AC Milan 2-0 Genoa

With an uninspiring victory over struggling Genoa, AC Milan went back on track to retake their place atop Serie A. Rafael Leao and Junior Messias were on target.

Milan ended their goal drought after just 11 minutes, easing the early tension at San Siro after failing to score in back-to-back games. Leao's first-time side-footed strike nestled in the back of the net after Pierre Kalulu's pass nicely picked out his run.

Despite such a promising start, the hosts were unable to extend their lead in the first half, and despite appearing to be in perfect control, Genoa midfielder Pablo Galdames gave them a scare when he went close on the stroke of half-time.

Stefano Pioli's team struggled to get into a rhythm after the restart, creating only a couple of half-chances as the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza became tense once more before substitute Junior Messias sealed the win three minutes before full-time.

The win puts Milan back on top of the table, two points ahead of Inter, despite the fact that their main rivals still have a game in hand. In third place, Napoli is five points behind.

Juventus 1-1 Bologna

The visitors were on their way to their first win over the Bianconeri since 2011, but a pair of red cards with ten minutes to go ended their hopes. Following VAR intervention, Gary Medel was issued two yellow cards in rapid succession for disagreeing with the referee after he chose to remove Adama Soumaoro for a challenge on Alvaro Morata.

That sequence gave Juventus hope, and in stoppage time, Vlahovic nodded home Alvaro Morata's acrobatic shot-cum-cross from close range to earn them a draw.

Even yet, the late drama won't be enough to cover up another poor Bianconeri showing, as they shed two points in the top-four battle.

Napoli 1-1 AS Roma

Watch Roma fight back from a penalty by Lorenzo Insigne to earn a point against Napoli with Stephan El Shaarawy, but refereeing choices were questioned.

The foul on Hirving Lozano by Roger Ibanez required an on-field VAR review, allowing Insigne to convert from the spot.

After Chris Smalling's stop on Victor Osimhen, Rui Patricio got a glove to Lozano's strike, while Osimhen almost scored an own goal by diverting Lorenzo Pellegrini's free kick onto the bar.

On Rick Karsdorp's cross, Tammy Abraham squandered a wonderful opportunity, but Nicol Zaniolo's penalty shouts were turned down as Alex Meret rushed out.

After a well-worked team play that included a bit of talent from Abraham, El Shaarawy swept in the equalizer.
