Liverpool 2-0 Watford

Joe Gomez was responsible for Jota's seventh header for Liverpool, more than any other player in the league since his Reds debut, thanks to a superbly measured cross from the right that the Portuguese flicked past Ben Foster.

Liverpool temporarily moved two points ahead of Manchester City before Pep Guardiola's side won at Burnley. Fabinho made no mistake from the penalty spot late on to ensure Liverpool, who were 14 points behind in January, moved two points ahead of Manchester City before Pep Guardiola's side won at Burnley.

Prior to Jota's goal, the visitors' desperate need for points was clear, with presentable chances for both Cucho Hernandez and Juraj Kucka generated, but Alisson was equal to both efforts.

The task was a tall one for the visitors, who had not won at Anfield since 1999, and Liverpool dutifully won their 10th league game in a row to dethrone the defending champions.

With the win, Jurgen Klopp marked his 250th game in charge by leading his team to the top of the Premier League for the first time since December 4 - albeit for only two hours.

Liverpool, who have already won the League Cup this season and are still in contention on three fronts, will face Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday.

They then meet Manchester City in a thrilling top-of-the-table game on Sunday, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Burnley 0-2 Manchester City

Only a win would keep Pep Guardiola's side at the top of the table for another week, but Kevin De Bruyne calmed the jitters with a magnificent strike after only five minutes.

De Bruyne was again involved in the second goal, this time sending up Raheem Sterling down the right side, who cut it back to Ilkay Gundogan, who rifled it home.

The result was never in doubt, and City maintains a one-point advantage over Liverpool heading into the final eight games of the season.

Chelsea 1-4 Brentford

Brentford came from behind to defeat Chelsea 4-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, securing a historic victory in west London.

Brentford pressed hard in the first half, limiting the Blues to few chances, as neither team managed to take the lead in the first 45 minutes.

However, as soon as the two teams emerged for the second half, everything changed when Antonio Rudiger scored a goal from well outside the Brentford area, putting his side 1-0 ahead.

The visiting side would score two goals in the next eight minutes, through Vitaly Janelt and Christian Eriksen, to take the lead away from the European champions.

As the clock approached 60 minutes, Janelt scored his second goal, deftly chipping the ball over Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea had a number of chances to get back into the game in the final half hour, but they failed to take advantage of them and were punished as a result.

Yoane Wissa then made matters worse by extending Brentford's lead to 4-1 after 87 minutes.

Manchester United 1-1 Leicester City

It might have been a lot worse for Ralf Rangnick's side, but James Maddison was denied a late winner for the visitors after referee Andre Marriner disallowed his strike following a VAR review after Kelechi Iheanacho fouled Raphael Varane (80).

Iheanacho had given the Foxes the lead when he leapt to direct Maddison's cross past David de Gea (63) but Fred equalized only three minutes later with an excellent finish.

After substitute Marcus Rashford responded slowly to the initial opportunity - encapsulating the England pair's recent struggles - Jadon Sancho clutched at a late chance, but it was hardly deserved.

United will keep fighting for a top-four spot, but it appears unlikely on this evidence, with the team three points behind Arsenal in that coveted slot after two games. Leicester moved up to ninth place, above Aston Villa, and the Europa Conference League remains a viable option for silverware this season.

Tottenham 5-1 Newcastle

Tottenham thrashed Newcastle United 5-1 to go into fourth place in the Premier League. Son Heung-min scored one goal and assisted on another.

Newcastle took the lead in the first half through Fabian Schar's free-kick past Hugo Lloris, but Ben Davies equalized four minutes later when he converted Son's cross.

Matt Doherty's header gave Antonio Conte's side the lead just three minutes into the second half, before Son rifled home after 54 minutes and Emerson Royal added gloss with a 63rd-minute fourth. Steven Bergwijn scored in the 83rd minute to give the hosts a five-goal lead.

Spurs are now in fourth place in the Premier League, one point ahead of local rivals Arsenal, who face Crystal Palace on Monday.
