Real Betis 1-2 Barcelona

Barcelona secured a top-four finish in the 2021/22 La Liga by defeating Real Betis 2-1 on Saturday night at Estadio Benito Villamarin.

After going on as a substitute, Ansu Fati gave Barcelona the lead after more than 70 minutes of fierce fighting. However, Marc Bartra equalized for the home team practically immediately.

As the game progressed, it appeared that Barça would have to settle for a point, until Jordi Alba saved the day for the Catalans by smashing home a magnificent volley deep into stoppage time.

Barcelona will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season as a result of their triumph.

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid outplayed Real Madrid 1-0 on Sunday night, despite the abundance of chances generated in the club's first La Liga victory in the capital rivalry since 2016.

While Real has the league wrapped up - and only started practicing again on Saturday following their European exploits - Atletico's Champions League status is in jeopardy. The hosts quickly established themselves as a serious opponent.

Within the first eight minutes, Atletico Madrid lost two golden opportunities by pressuring Real high up the pitch, with Angel Correa and Yannick Carrasco both unable to test Real's stand-in goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

Atletico kept the pressure on Real, forcing them into their own half. After another high turnover, Matheus Cunha had a shot blocked before running towards the penalty box.

While lining up a shot, the Brazilian forward was wedged between Eder Militao and Jesus Vallejo. Cunha's hesitation earned him a penalty after a VAR review proved Vallejo's clumsy challenge. Carrasco calmly converted to give Atletico a well-deserved lead in the 40th minute.
