2021-2022 La Liga Week 17: Match Highlights

Another disappointing game witnessed Barcelona slip to 8th in the La Liga table. Meanwhile, Real Betis continue their excellent form and make it to the top 3.

Osasuna earned a point thanks to a late equalizer from Chimy Avila, but Barcelona's poor form continued to keep them in ninth position in La Liga.

Xavi Hernandez's side came into the game having suffered defeats to Real Betis and Bayern Munich, and looked to be on their way to a much-needed win until Avila scored late in the game for the hosts.

Barcelona got off to a strong start at El Sadar when Nico Gonzalez finished after 12 minutes after controlling a wonderful Gavi pass from deep.

Barcelona's lead, however, was short-lived, as David Garcia took advantage of some sloppy marking inside the opponent's penalty area to head in a freekick.

Just minutes into the second half, there was controversy when Osasuna's penalty petition was denied, just moments before Abde Ezzalzouli scored emphatically to put Barca ahead.

Following a partially-cleared corner kick, Osasuna created late pressure and forced an equaliser when Avila smashed home a finish from the edge of the Barcelona area.

The loss keeps Barcelona, who have now gone three games without a win, in eighth position in La Liga, 15 points behind Real Madrid, and Osasuna in tenth.

Real Betis 4-0 Real Sociedad

Real Betis improved their prospects of finishing in the Top Four of La Liga this season with a 4-0 win against rivals Real Sociedad.

After a merciless display against La Real, the Andalusians remain in the Champions League places overnight.

At the Estadio Benito Villamarin, Manuel Pellegrini's team attempted to impose their authority on the encounter from the start, with Alex Moreno scoring on 14 minutes.

Before the break, the visitors were jolted into action by that early goal, with Rui Silva twice making crucial saves from Portu.

Real Betis eased away after the break, with La Real unable to convert their chances.

Juanmi doubled their lead when Juanmi slipped home Moreno's brilliant cross, before Nabil Ferkir's superb solo effort made it 3-0.

Imanol Alguacil's troops were unable to respond late on with the home side on cruise control, and Moreno collected his second of the night in the final moments.

Pellergini's team will go to Talavera in the Copa del Rey midweek, while La Real will travel to Zamora.
